Wilf Schlee Jr. is the son of a previous AYYA Yo-Yo Hall of Famer Wilf Schlee Sr. Schlee Jr. worked with his father at the well known Canadian yo-yo company Cheerio. After World War II, Schlee Jr. set up productions in the United States for the Cheerio yo-yo. Working with Sam Dubiner and Al Gallo they make the Cheerio brand the most significant rival to the Duncan yo-yo empire. Since Duncan owned the trademark yo-yo in the United States Schlee Jr. could not use the word to describe his toy, but Cheerio market penetration was so great in some Northern cities the toy was not called a “yo-yo†but a “cheerioâ€. In 1954 the Cheerio brand in the United States was sold to Duncan, but Schlee Jr. continued to produce, sell and promote yo-yos in the United States as the Hi-Ker brand.
